Birth;Venus

Birth:Venus was inspired by a plaster cast of the Venus de Milo, a piece of midnight blue velvet and broken eggs.   Venus and eggs are ancient symbols of fertility but here they speak of the infinite abundance and variety of life as well as life’s inherent mystery.  Eggs emerge from the background and flow forward like miniature models of the solar system.  As a cracked shell reveals the golden center of a previously hidden cosmos so the surface of the painting seems to come apart revealing an endless succession of worlds.
